Peaceful Adventures
There is something blissfully peaceful about a cat napping. It's like they've perfected the art of contentment and rest, enjoying the moment, not worrying about the next thing to come. Where do you find moments of peace in your life?
Is it catching a quick nap through a busy day? Or taking a quiet walk in the woods?
Or, if it’s like many of us in the office these days, plugging in your earphones and listening to your favourite podcast or music to calm the chaos around you, between short walks around the office building to get some much needed movement in our stationary jobs.
Maybe it’s disappearing into a good novel, taking adventures in distant places, faraway lands, or ancient times. I recently finished reading the Aeneid by Virgil. It was interesting to read a novel that has lasted over two thousand years and inspired Dante’s Divine Comedy which itself is several hundred years old. I don’t always read great works of literature; most of the time it’s lighter than that, like “The Cat Who…” series.
Reading fiction is nice because it can take you away to anywhere you want to go, if you feel the need to escape your life and experience peace.
What are other ways you find peace in your life?
Some other ways I find peace include quilting, sewing, drawing, painting, and just about any other type of craft I can find. Those can be solitary adventures though, unless I’m taking a class.
Walks with Michael through the local Conservation Areas are fantastic for gaining a sense of peace; breathing the pine scented air, watching the birds, frogs, fish, and if we’re lucky even turtles hanging around. It’s soaking in the moments of God’s creation that rejuvenates us.
Hmmm… maybe there’s something to that.
Creating art; being in creation.
Experiencing peace through being close to creation… maybe that’s why “In the beginning, God created…”
Now if only we could all play nice with each other instead of fighting each other over borders. Think of what a lovely world it would be if we all got along, sharing love and kindness with each other, filling the world with beautiful things, rather than tearing it down or having to strive to survive.
Then we’d have more time to take catnaps like Harry :)
