Reflections on 2025

This past year has been full of challenges and wins. My day job experienced lots of layoffs with increased stress for everyone who remained, followed by a 5 week strike. In my art / creativity world I self-published two more books, and have drafted several more quick-read devotionals. I’ve also developed my surface pattern design work and am learning how to add my art to products.

I feel a new sense of purpose, even if I’m not 100% sure yet what that purpose is. It’s like the caterpillar purposefully weaving the chrysalis to become a butterfly; there is purpose in the work while knowing they’ll never be quite the same again.

So when this time of year comes, we reflect on the past year and start looking forward to the new, what things are you celebrating? What are you looking to grow into in the next year? I encourage you to make a list of your wins for the year; if there is even one thing on the list, that’s wonderful! If you can’t think of anything, feel free to reach out – I’m sure we can put together your list 🙂 Here’s my list for this year:

What does next year have in store? In truth only God knows for sure, but to paraphrase the verse, people plan their way, God sets their steps (Proverbs 16:9). With that, I’ve decided to do what a friend has described as “a beautiful experiment.” I’m going to start posting on YouTube very brief instructional videos on art and crafts that I do, with a brief devotional at the end of each. I don’t know where it will go, but look forward to learning lots in the process. Feel free to join me on this journey (more details will be shared in the new year.) I have a feeling that this is the chrysalis I described earlier. Come along and see what kind of butterfly emerges 🙂
